South Philly Review (SPR) has me shaking my head once again. I picked up this week’s edition (off the corner, again, I might add) hoping SPR had finally come to its senses. The cover story is, “Trend Setting,” and features … Continue reading
Then, when my girlfriend and I started our Sunday morning work-outs, we decided we’d celebrate when we walked a full mile by going to brunch here. So, a few weeks ago, we hit the mark and headed over for a well-earned meal and we were NOT dissappointed. Carman’s across the street from 11th District police (holla, boys! I always shake my ass a little for ya in appreciation as I walk by). You’ll know it when you see the big dog house out front and the pick-up with the picnic table in the back. Continue reading
This is a great dish for breakfast, lunch or dinner, for just a couple or a crowd. And you can tailor it to your liking. If you want lower fat, use egg whites. If you don’t like peppers or basil, put in something or simply leave ‘em out. Really, you can put just about anything into one of these and it’s super easy. Continue reading

It’s bad enough people have to get you two gifts for the same occasion. And, newsflash: a lot of wedding showers are torturous affairs with stupid games where a bunch of women have to make a dress out of toilet paper. Do I look like Monique Lhuillier to you? If they didn’t serve some booze, I’d never have made it through half of the ones I’ve attended. At least you can look forward to the wedding, but not if you’re not invited!! Continue reading

While yoga can be a wonderful physical/mental experience, done incorrectly, you can actually injure yourself. So, I feel it’s important to sound the alarm about this particular place of practice. Continue reading

This is one of those rare times I’ve found a product that lived up to my expectations, not that my expectations of shower gel are all that great. But, Avalon Organics bath & shower gel really goes a long way. I find the lemony scent very invigorating, perfect for the morning shower. Gladly, though, I don’t step out of the shower smelling like an orchard. Continue reading

Yesterday, I came home from the Italian market and realized I was out of pesto, which I planned to use on last night’s panini. I was also out of pine nuts, but still had about 2 cups of pepitas in the freezer. So I grabbed the parsley, lemon, cheese and oil I had just picked up and tossed them into the food processor.
The result was a lovely creamy pesto sauce. Continue reading

When garlic/onion is done, deglaze the pan with vinegar, add brown sugar & dissolve. Add thyme and black pepper and let simmer on low heat until reduced. Drizzle over veggies. (Also good on fish and chicken.) Continue reading
