This week’s Modern Manners Lesson goes out to Kanye West, Rep. Joe Wilson & Real Housewife Sheree and it’s about letting others enjoy the limelight once in a while and, as my brother used to say, Sit Down!
Sometimes, it’s not your day to shine, ok? Regardless of whether you disagree with the outcome of a contest, don’t believe in a political policy or are just plain jealous of someone else’s accomplishments, the instance in which that person gets their moment is not the time for you to stand up and protest!! These days there’s enough news coverage for everyone to get their chance to whine and complain, especially if you’re in political office yourself or have, say, a multi-million dollar record deal.
Interrupting someone isn’t just rude, it’s telling; it shows what kind of person you really are: small. At least Kanye has his Napoleon complex to blame it on!
On the bright side, for once, it seems like the rest of the world agrees with me. Joe Wilson’s name only just came off the top trending Twitter topics today and Kanye is still number 5. People seem to be pretty well disgusted and I am quite pleased to see it. I know, I know, both of them apologized, but it’s a little too late for that. It’s a journalistic rule that the correction always gets less attention that the original news. Besides, you ruined the moment and that’s what counts. I really hope Kanye saw that little “Boo,” escape Beyonce’s lips immediately following, though I wish she had said, “SIT DOWN!!”
